Ear Wax Removal Is Back

We are glad to be back and we're ready to help. It has been a long process, from the sourcing of personal protective equipment (PPE), to the updating of our appointment timings and booking process.

Book Microsuction Online Now!

How We Protect You

Throughout every stage of the process, from making the booking right until the end of your appointment, we have implemented procedures that are designed to safeguard your health every step of the way.

Before being able to book, you will need to fill out a triage form that has been designed to make sure that anyone attending an appointment has no symptoms of Covid-19, and does not have a perforated ear drum. Because everybody has to do this, it means that our staff, our patients, but most importantly you will be protected.

Wearing masks

We are also aware that people who have no symptoms of Covid-19 can be carriers, so everybody who attends an appointment will have to use a non-toxic hand sanitizer and wear a fluid-resistant Type iiR surgical mask on arrival. Our staff will also be wearing a mask, in addition to a disposable apron and disposable gloves. This has been determined by ENT UK and the Infection Prevention Society to be sufficient to prevent the transmission of Covid-19, when the patient does not have a perforated ear drum. Unfortunately, this does mean that those patients with a perforated ear drum will probably have to wait until there is a vaccine for Covid-19, or until we receive different guidance.

Cleanliness is next to godliness

In between each appointment, we will sanitize surfaces in the treatment room, doff (take off) our used PPE and don (put on) fresh PPE. This is to ensure that the room is safe for you and all of our patients.

No sharing pens or clipboards (or phones or tablets)

Before you attend your appointment, you will need to fill in a consent form online. We used to do this during the appointment, but for your protection it is far safer to avoid sharing mobile phones and tablet computers. Your consent form is protected by several layers of security, and the data is encrypted using 256-bit AES (military grade) encryption. You will receive a link to the consent form in your confirmation and reminder emails after you book online.

A New Way Of Booking

In order to incorporate the newly required triage form and the consent form into the booking process, as well as to provide an even greater level of security, we have completely revamped our booking system. This has been a three year process, but we are sure you will agree that it is worth it. It has been designed to make the whole booking process as seamless and as easy as possible. You simply enter your postcode and click "Find Appointments" and in about 5 seconds a list of all clinic locations and dates and times will be displayed. You can change the maximum distance and the furthest day ahead at the top of the table. Simply choose a date and location and click on the time that you would like to book. The price is displayed below the time. Check that you have selected the right place, date and time and then click "Book Now". You will then be taken to the checkout, where you can enter your details, your credit card, and any discount code (new customers can use the code 5offnew to get a £5 discount off their first booking - it's a new system, so even existing customers count as new customers!). Due to the new infection prevention procedures, our time spent per patient is at least fifty percent greater than before, and the price of PPE has risen sharply since the arrival of Covid-19, so our prices have risen accordingly. We hope the discount code will help a little.

How To Book Your Microsuction Appointment Online

The Microsuction Ear Wax Removal Network is a brand of First Health Ltd, and our sister brand, Hearing First, is providing the infrastructure for the new booking system. You will start by filling in a triage form, and assuming you fulfill the necessary criteria you will then be taken to the booking page. It is currently part of our professional regulations that everybody has to fill in a triage form as part of the booking process, so we can only take online bookings at this present time. The good news is that you can see all of our appointments on the page. If the time you want is not shown, you could try waiting a few hours or perhaps try again the next day in case anybody cancels their appointment.

Please read the instructions at the top of the triage form, as it explains that you will need to bring a mobile phone with you, as we will be calling people in to the clinic one at a time. This is to prevent patients sitting together for a long time or crossing paths. We would respectfully ask you to wait outside the location until we call you on your phone. The easiest way to do this is to drive to the location and wait in your car, if you have one. However, if you must travel by public transport, please wear a mask (or at least some kind of face covering) and do your best to maintain 2 metres (about 6 feet) social distancing from other people.

Even though the government is gradually relaxing the lockdown, we have to bear in mind that Covid-19 is still out there and there isn't yet a vaccine, so please stay safe!

Simply put, microsuction is the removal of ear wax from the ear canal using illuminating microscopes and gentle medical suction. Why Do We Have Earwax?

Ear wax (medical name cerumen) is made by specialised glands in the outer two thirds of the ear canal. It helps protect the ear by moisturising the skin in the ear canal, providing a physical barrier against infection, and by being acidic it has antibacterial properties. Because it is sticky, it helps to catch dust, pollen and small insects and prevent them from establishing themselves in your ears! The skin in your ear canal grows differently to the skin that covers the rest of our body, and grows along the ear canal from the ear drum to the canal entrance. It acts like a conveyor belt, bringing the ear wax, and any dust, pollen or other debris with it, out of the ear. This way, the ear canal cleans itself naturally.

Why Do Ear Wax Blockages Happen?

Typically, ear wax blocks the ear canal and becomes impacted when it is pushed back against the natural outward movement that is part of the natural cleaning process. This can be done using cotton buds, matchsticks, paper clips, rolled up tissue, hair pins amongst other objects. Other causes of ear wax impaction can be narrow or winding ear canals, excessive, excessively dry or excessively sticky ear wax production. Everybody has an S bend in their ear canals - this is to reduce the chance of twigs and other objects from perforating the ear drum. However, ear wax can build up on very sharp bends in the canal. Where the ear canal is very narrow, there is less space for ear wax to accumulate, and this can lead to frequent ear wax blockages. Excessive, sticky, or dry ear wax production can also lead to impacted ear wax. The most obvious symptom of a blocked ear is a partial or total loss of hearing, but other symptoms can include pain, itching, a feeling of fullness, or hissing, whooshing, buzzing or ringing sounds.

How To Get Rid Of Ear Wax

Unfortunately, the size and shape of your ear canal, as well as the amount and type of ear wax is genetically determined. In order to reduce ear wax build up we recommend applying one squirt of Earol (a sterile, sealed olive oil spray) into each ear once or twice a week. If you have a blocked ear, we recommend you apply two squirts of Earol twice or three times a day for three or four days and then attend one of our expert microsuction ear wax removal clinics. You can book an appointment at our Aylesbury microsuction ear wax removal clinic here. Please don't put cotton wool in after applying Earol, as it will just absorb the olive oil and stop it from doing its work. We don't recommend self-syringing as this can push the ear wax further into your ear. We particularly recommend you avoid ear candles, as these do not remove ear wax and can potentially cause serious problems. We have an article on ear candles and their pitfalls here.

If you'd like to read about the various methods of ear wax removal, including syringing and microsuction, we have an article on different ear wax removal methods here.

If You Wear Hearing Aids

If you wear hearing aids, to prevent oil and wax from blocking up your hearing aids just apply the Earol at night, and then wipe out the entrance of your ear canal with a tissue in the morning before you put your hearing aids in. You'll ideally need to use Earol for five to eight days before your microsuction appointment.

Ear Wax Microsuction In Aylesbury From £50

So, after reading the above if you have wax in your ear and would like it removed safely without any water being syringed or jetted into your ear, you may want to choose to have your ears microsuctioned.

We provide the most effective ear wax microsuction service in Bucks, provided by HCPC-registered Audiologists. We take payment for the appointment up front - we are sorry that we have to do this, but many patients have booked and not turned up, which is frustrating for other patients who cannot get an appointment.

Our Audiologist will inspect your ears using a portable ENT microscope or an otoscope to determine whether your ear canals are full of wax and if microsuction is therefore necessary.

If there is no ear wax, we will give you advice and/or a hearing test as appropriate.

If there is wax, we will remove the ear wax expertly using a low power medical suction unit with a tiny, sterile 2 mm suction tube on the end. This is so gentle, it feels like barely even a kiss on the cheek. Sometimes, despite applying Earol for several days, the ear wax is too stubborn to be removed by microsuction, so we may use special disposable instruments, such as a Jobson Horne Probe, or a St Barts or Rosen Cerumen Hook. Whatever method we use, you safety is our top priority at all times. If you would like to book a microsuction appointment in Aylesbury Stoke Mandeville, click here.

We never use a Propulse Ear Irrigator, which has now largely replaced the ear syringe, as according to the British Medical Journal (article here) irrigation or syringing is associated with a high risk of complications, such as failure of wax removal or further impaction of the wax, ear infection, trauma to the ear canal, or perforation of the ear drum. Other complications of syringing that have been reported are pain, tinnitus, vertigo (dizziness), and loss of balance or hearing.

Many people in North London are finding that their local GP surgery no longer offers ear syringing. No doubt this is partly due to a lack of funding, but also because ear syringing is inherently less safe than ear micro suction. Possible side effects of ear syringing or irrigation are ear infection, hearing loss, tinnitus, perforation of the ear drum, and further impaction of the ear wax (i.e. the ear wax gets pushed even harder against the ear drum). Is it any wonder that people are going off walk in ear syringing in London and are seeking out microsuction ear wax removal instead? Unfortunately, the sharp rise in demand has meant that NHS micro suction clinics are now unable to meet the need and waiting times are often over two to three months.

You no longer need to wait months for micro suction. Why not jump the queue by going private? Simply head to our booking page and you could be saying goodbye to your wax blockage this week!

Where To Find Our London Microsuction Service

Where To Find Our London Microsuction Service

Audiologist Jason Levy leads his team of Audiologists and specially trained medical nurses at ten centres in central London, Greater London and the Home Counties, and if you read on, you will discover where to find our London Microsuction service.

To make it easy for you to contact the clinics to make an appointment the contact details are listed in the map below.

Jason's team are experts at clearing a blocked ear and in order to clear blocked ears, primarily to clear ear wax, they use the latest technology which is quick, efficient and pain free.  In some cases their patients have reported that their hearing has returned to normal, in all cases their hearing is greatly improved.

Painless and Safe method to clear ear wax

Using a kind of microscope that is designed for the ear, the specialist will be able to see in order to locate and clear ear wax.  The Micro Suction Practitioner uses either a pair of portable microscopes known as “loupes” or an operating microscope and a bright light to see into your ear canal deep into the ear as far as the eardrum. This way, he or she can see exactly what they are doing inside your ear. The suction wands used to remove the wax from it's exact location are sterile, so the risk of infection is virtually nil. For these reasons, microsuction is considered the safest method of removing wax from the ear.

Because our clinics only use the latest technology and equipment, CE-certified medical suction pump for clearing ear wax, we know that the method is safe and painless.  We recommend that you use Earol sterile olive oil spray, or a few drops of olive oil in either ear for a few days before your appointment and clearing a blocked ear will be effective, quick and painless.

We look forward to welcoming you to one of our london ear wax removal clinics.

Here's What People Say About Us

Bliss - I can hear again!!

microsuction clinic in pinner - looking for where to get ear wax removal in pinner?

I can highly and thoroughly recommend this service to anyone suffering with blocked ears caused by excess wax. I had an appointment with Jason who is very professional and personable and instantly put me at ease. After the routine medical questions he explained exactly how the procedure is performed and all the equipment that would be used. Then the procedure – it was not long at all probably 10-15 minutes and at no point did I feel any pain or discomfort and Jason constantly kept me up to date with what he was doing – he removed an incredible amount of wax from my ears and I felt like a new man when I left with perfect hearing again – I realised in hindsight it felt like I had been underwater for a year and a half and suddenly broken back above the surface. If you have blocked ears – get this procedure done! I will not hesitate in the future

Excellent and efficient!

Micro suction Ear Wax Removal Clinic inside In Cootes Pharmacy

After being told I’d need to wait six weeks for a hospital appointment I found this service online. I saw Jason at the London Ear Wax Removal Clinic the same day. He was extremely helpful and clearly explained how the process worked. It took no time at all to painlessly remove all wax from both my ears and restore the hearing in my left ear that I’d lost a week earlier. A great and highly efficient service that I’d thoroughly recommend to anyone with similar problems.

We Do Impacted Ear Wax Removal At Our Six Clinics

We Do Impacted Ear Wax Removal At Our Six Clinics

We do impacted ear wax removal at our six clinics in London and Hertfordshire.  This process is performed by one of our highly trained Audiologists or our specially trained Medical Nurses using a process called Microsuction.

Where You Can Find Us

Our staff will be pleased to receive your enquiry or book you in for an appointment at a time which is convenient to you.

If you have impacted earwax it can be very painful, reduce your hearing, even cause you to loose your hearing in one or even both your ears, so our speedy and pain free earwax removal should be your first step in taking care of your ear health.

At least take the time to check out your hearing to find out if impacted earwax is the cause of your hearing loss.

How We Clear Earwax

Our clinics pride ourselves in using the latest techniques and equipment to ensure that your ears are

Endoscopic Microsuction Demonstrated By Mr J Levy of the Microsuction Ear Wax Removal Network. The Microsuction Ear Wax Removal Network are the first London clinics to offer endoscopic microsuction. In a 2010 Health Technology Assessment, Endoscopic wax removal was shown to be superior to Microscopic wax removal. treated gently and with great accuracy as we examine them to determine the exact location of rogue earwax.  We use operating microscopes that can either be large floor standing units, or can be incorporated into glasses (known as operating loupes) to discover your earwax location within the ear. Once we have located the exact position of the earwax, we then use a medical suction pump that is attached to a tube and a 2 millimetre suction wand which is used to suction the wax from your ear. For clearing a blocked ear, clearing ear wax, reducing or removing pain from your ears, we believe that this is the quickest and safest method for removing impacted ear wax.

Microsuction should only be performed by someone with a good knowledge of the anatomy of the ear and who has been trained in how to use the equipment safely to ensure a speedy and pain free treatment.

0800 1 337 987 earwaremoval.net NMC registered microsuction specialist nurse copyright earwaxremoval.net & Jason LevyThat is why we ensure that our Audiologists and Specialist Nurses have had further training in the process.  We do not spray water into the ear so our process is safe to use even after ear surgery or when the eardrum has been damaged or perforated.

The Microsuction Practitioner uses a powerful operating microscope and a bright light source, so he or she can see exactly what is happening inside your ear, so the procedure is the safest of all.

Baker Street History

Baker Street is a street in the Marylebone district of the City of Westminster in London. It is named after builder William Baker, who laid out the street in the 18th century. The street is most famous for its connection to the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes, who lived at a fictional 221B Baker Street address on the north of the street. The area was originally high class residential, but now is mainly occupied by commercial premises.

Arnold Bennett and H.G Wells used to live at Chiltern Court on Baker Street, and are commemorated with a blue plaque.

British singer Dusty Springfield lived on Baker Street in the 1960s.

In 1835, the first wax museum of Madame Tussauds was opened on Baker Street. The museum moved, just around the corner, to Marylebone Road in 1884.

In 1940 the HQ of the Special Operations Executive (SOE) moved to 64 Baker Street. They were nicknamed the "Baker Street Irregulars" after the fictional gang of the same name in Sherlock Holmes novels.

The Beatles' Apple Boutique was based at 94 Baker Street from 1967 to 1968.

A blue plaque commemorates Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger who lived at 120 Baker Street from 1803 to 1804.

We decided to extend our microsuction clinic to Saturdays, as many people have enquired with us about weekend microsuction appointments as they work Monday to Friday and are unable to attend an ear wax removal appointment during the week. The addition of a weekend ear wax removal clinic is a service that we are very happy to offer people who live and work in Central London, as well as people who like to come in to London at the weekend.

Saturday Microsuction Clinic London Location

Our clinic is inside Berkeley Court Pharmacy on Melcombe Street. If you're not familiar with the Baker Street area, Melcombe Street runs between Baker Street and Marylebone stations. It's about a one minute walk from Baker Street Underground station, or 4 minutes walk from Marylebone station.

We recommend that in order to maximise the likelihood that we can remove all the wax, and to make the procedure more comfortable, you should use Earol twice a day in each ear for at least two days prior to your appointment. You can get Earol for around £5 from most chemists.

Note that we do not recommend the use of Otex, as this contains peroxide, which can cause irritation of the ear canal, and as a consequence the microsuction procedure may be less comfortable for you.

You can find more information about our Central London microsuction clinic here. The page includes directions on how to get there, as well as the address, contact details, nearest tube stations and where to park.

What Is Microsuction?

Simply put, microsuction is the removal of ear wax from the ear canal using illuminating microscopes and gentle medical suction. At our clinics we use ENT-grade suction units and portable convergent microscopes, as well as disposable, sterile suction tips. Microsuction is considered the safest method of ear wax removal, and our training and experience ensure you will have a very safe procedure.

When the ear wax is very tough, or if there is a foreign body in the ear canal, such as a cotton bud tip, or an ear plug which has become stuck, we may use instruments, which are specially designed for removing ear wax and other objects from the ear canal. All of our staff are trained and experienced at using instruments. You may also see instrument removal also called "curettage" or "aural toilet", but we think "instrument removal" sounds nicer.

BOOK NOW! SAVE £5

You can book an appointment at our london microsuction ear wax removal clinic here.

Ear Wax Microsuction In London From £50

So, after reading the above if you have wax in your ear and would like it removed safely without any water being syringed or jetted into your ear, you may want to choose to have your ears microsuctioned.

We provide the most affordable ear wax microsuction service in London, provided by HCPC-registered Audiologists.

If you would like to book a microsuction appointment in London, click here.
